After 8 years, it’s time to say goodbye.

Woodcraft was written in 2013, by a team of 3 people. Things have changed, people have moved on and I was left alone to handle Woodcraft’s evolution into the future.

The application was written using the technologies of the time: Objective-C, OpenGL, CoreData, a long since-deprecated Twitter API. Over the years, I have tried to maintain compatibility with the latest version of iOS, and upgraded the rendering engine to Metal. However, the code base was firmly rooted in the past and was in dire need for a rewrite.

I started rewriting Woodcraft from scratch in 2018, using Swift and Reactive. Then got sidetracked on a paying contract or two and Woodcraft was left behind.

I cannot, in all honesty, continue to have Woodcraft in the store, knowing its shortcomings and feel good about delivering the level of quality I feel the app deserves. In December 2020, I decided to retire Woodcraft from the App Store.

Maybe one day, I’ll pick up where I left off…

Thank you for the journey, it was amazing to see what some of you were able to achieve with this humble app.
